Removal/Disposal of Handgun

If the handgun is Dual Registered BOTH permit holders must provide the necessary forms

 

If you have a Green Paper Pistol Permit:

A handgun removal cannot be completed via mail.

 

If you have a Plastic Pistol Permit Card:

When removing a firearm to a dealer you must fill out TWO ORIGINALS of this amendment form (all highlighted areas are required) and send BOTH ORIGINALS to us along with the following items: 

  1. Original or copy of the bill of sale from the Federal Firearms Dealer, which must include the dealer's name and address along with a description of the firearm.
     
  2. Issued Plastic Pistol Permit Card (not a copy) along with additional paper gun stub if applicable (if you own more than five handguns)   *Until you receive the new license you are not authorized to carry any of your currently registered handguns.
     
  3. Payment (cash or check made out to Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office):
  • $8.00 if a new Plastic Pistol Permit Card will be printed.
  • $3.00 if you already have five handguns listed on the back of your Pistol Permit and therefore a new Plastic License Card will not be printed (in this case an updated permit gun stub will be returned to you).
