On July 8th 2021 at approximately 6:40 AM a motor vehicle being operated by Joshua P. Jones, age 37 of Newfield NY, pulled into the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office parking lot.
Just prior to this, the Ithaca Police Department had put out information that they were looking for a vehicle matching the description of the one Jones’ was operating due to two incidents within the City of Ithaca. The operator of the vehicle was wanted for a check the welfare from the Speedway in the City of Ithaca and was also seen driving across the grassy median at Stewart Park.
Deputies interviewed Jones and observed an open container and signs of impairment. A DWI Investigation was conducted and resulted in Jones’ arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.
Jones was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st Degree (Felony), and Refusal to Take a Breath Test. Jones was released on an appearance ticket, per NYS Bail Reform, ordering him to return to the Town of Lansing Court on a later date.
In addition to our current charges, Jones was previously arrested on 6/3/2021 by the New York State Police for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years), and on 6/13/21 by the New York State Police for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years) while operating an ATV. Troopers assisted a Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputy who was investigating a crash and observed Jones on his ATV. When troopers interviewed Jones, they smelled an odor of an alcoholic beverage. After an investigation, Jones was arrested. He was processed at SP Ithaca then released on appearance tickets to the Town of Enfield court on June 28, 2021."
"On June 13, 2021 at approximately 11:03 a.m., New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Joshua P. Jones, age 37 of Newfield, NY for the felony of Driving While Intoxicated (with a previous conviction within 10 years) and the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree. A trooper was dispatched to a report of a man stopped on an ATV, with a shotgun slung over his shoulder in the middle of the traffic circle near Elmira Road an Trumbulls Corners in the Town of Newfield. With the assistance of Ithaca City Police, the ATV and the operator were located in the City of Ithaca on James L. Gibbs Drive. Jones was identified as the operator and troopers observed characteristics associated with impairment. Jones was also in possession of a shotgun, which he cannot possess because he is a convicted felon. After an investigation, Jones was arrested. He was transported to SP Ithaca where he was processed and released on appearance tickets to the City of Ithaca court on June 17, 2021."
