On January 3, 2021 at 3:55 PM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies responded to BJs Wholesale located at 40 Graham Road in the Village of Lansing for a drug complaint. Deputies interviewed witnesses upon arrival. A witness provided a description of a male and stated that they observed him drop what appeared to be narcotics out of his pocket as he was checking out.
Deputies searched the area and located a male matching the description who admitted to just leaving BJs. The male was identified as Duwan J. Brathwaite, age 45 of Pennsylvania. After reviewing video surveillance from the store, Deputies arrested Brathwaite and charged him with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance - Heroin (Class A Misdemeanor). Brathwaite was released on appearance ticket ordering him to return to the Town of Lansing Court at a later date.
