January 28, 2021 – Car/Pedestrian Accident

On January 28, 2021 at 7:50 PM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the intersection of Trumansburg Road and Hopkins Place in the Town of Ithaca for a car versus pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, deputies observed a person that had been hit by a vehicle lying on the ground. Deputies assisted in treating patients until medical professionals arrived.

The initial investigation indicated that a small SUV traveling south on Trumansburg Road swerved abruptly when the driver of the SUV observed a pedestrian in the roadway. When the small SUV swerved to avoid colliding with the pedestrian the SUV swerved into the north bound lane of travel and side swiped a sedan traveling north bound. The small SUV was unable to avoid colliding with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical Center for treatment. The occupants of the vehicles were taken to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment. The New York State Police, Ithaca Police Department, Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

The accident is still under investigation and no names are being released at this time.
