On August 19, 2020 at 6:47 PM, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Esty Drive in the Town of Lansing for a report of a male who had fallen into a ravine. Deputies responded to assist the Lansing Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance with the incident.
Upon arrival deputies were directed to a waterfall/ravine area where the subject fell. Witnesses advised they were hiking when the individual slipped and fell off of a waterfall. The victim was identified as 18 year old Aleksander Travis of Lansing. Due to the rugged terrain, Travis was carried from the ravine by emergency personnel to Lansing Fire Department’s rescue boat. Lansing Fire Department then transported Travis to an awaiting Bangs ambulance. Travis was transported to Cayuga Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
